Trey Lance is perhaps the biggest mystery in all of fantasy football. Do we even know if he is good at football? We don't know. We don't know if he's good at football. He's only thrown 420 passes since he graduated high school.
I think in a world where Brock Purdy doesn't tear his UCL, Trey Lance may never have started another game for the 49ers. But Purdy did tear his UCL, and Lance should be fully recovered from the ankle fracture and dislocation that he suffered in Week 2 last year.
Now, typically I discuss how this type of injury affects a player's willingness and ability to run. But given that Lance hasn't actually shown he's a dynamic runner in the NFL yet, it's hard to knock him from that perspective.
The average recovery timeline for his injury is about three to five months. So from an injury perspective, I think that Trey Lance will be healthy to start the year. And I don't expect Brock Purdy to be able to do the same thing. So until we get some confirmation on who the starting quarterback is, I'm just staying away from both of these guys. Trey Lance, even though I think he's going to be healthy, is on my do not draft list.
