When Zach Ertz left the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2020 season, Dallas Goedert was in a prime position to have a huge breakout year. No more being tossed off the field in favor of Zach Ertz; he was finally going to be on the field a majority of the time and the number one tight end in this offense. After having over 800 receiving yards in 2021, the sky was the limit for Dallas Goedert. But it has slowly just collapsed since then.
Now, he did have 83 targets last season, the second highest of his career and the most since 2019. But his receiving yards? Well, those weren't all that great because his 592 receiving yards were his lowest since 2019 and actually barely beat out his total in 2019 as well. Not only have we seen his production slowly decline over the last three years, but he continues to miss games as well, and that becomes a huge issue. In 2020, he only played in 11 games, and he's missed 10 games over the last three seasons.
Your best ability is your availability, especially at the tight end position, because if you're spending a draft pick on a tight end that you need to produce and he ends up missing a bunch of time, now you're left scouring the waiver wire for a bunch of tight ends that typically aren't going to produce either. Your tight end pick has to be somebody that's going to be readily available throughout the entire season, and you have to hope that they're not going to be injured, and Dallas Goedert hasn't been that guy.
Now they've added Saquon Barkley so they could get back to running the football a little bit more. You still have A.J. Brown, and you still have DeVonta Smith. For me personally, I just can't find myself investing too much in Dallas Goedert anymore. Yeah, I love saying Dallas Goedert when we want to be fancy, but unfortunately, his numbers aren't fancy enough for me to be investing in consistently for fantasy football.
